Scalable, Role-Relevant Power Platform & SharePoint Enablement for a Major Airline

Scalable, Role-Relevant Power Platform & SharePoint Enablement for a Major Airline thumb

Executive Overview

A major U.S. airline partnered with Ascendient Learning to design and deliver a scalable, governance-aligned enablement program for Microsoft Power Platform and SharePoint. The objective was to empower employees across frontline, operational, and corporate roles to modernize everyday work, reduce manual effort, and improve consistency, without increasing dependency on IT or compromising enterprise security standards.

Delivered as a repeatable onsite model since 2024, the program has become a trusted foundation for low-code adoption and collaborative productivity across the organization. The client is currently working with Ascendient Learning, Part of Accenture LearnVantage, to add six additional deliveries of this program within the current year, reinforcing the ongoing value and demand for the solution. This engagement positioned Ascendient Learning as a long-term partner for enterprise-scale, role-driven Microsoft enablement within a highly regulated environment.

Business Challenge

The airline operates with a highly diverse workforce distributed across locations, functions, and technical skill levels. Prior to the engagement, teams faced several compounding challenges:

  • Operational inefficiency driven by manual, repetitive tasks and disconnected workflows
  • Inconsistent information management, making collaboration across teams and locations difficult
  • Limited ability for non-technical employees to improve processes without submitting IT requests
  • Strict governance, security, and compliance requirements, limiting experimentation and requiring guardrails for any enablement effort
  • Low confidence in external training vendors due to prior inconsistent delivery quality

Methodology and Solutions

The organization needed a practical, role-relevant training approach that would enable employees to take ownership of everyday improvements while remaining fully compliant with enterprise policies and approved configurations.

Solution Design Principles:

  • Role relevance: Content mapped to frontline users, operational teams, power users, and site owners rather than “one-size-fits-all” training
  • Practical application: Real-world use cases based on the airline's actual business scenarios
  • Governance alignment: Training delivered entirely within the airline's approved Microsoft 365 environment, configurations, and security model
  • Scalability: A repeatable onsite delivery structure that could be consistently executed quarter over quarter

Technology Enablement:

  • Microsoft Power Platform enabled learners to automate processes, build simple applications, and streamline workflows using low-code tools aligned to their role permissions, reducing reliance on IT for routine productivity improvements.
  • Microsoft SharePoint provided structure and consistency for information management, standardizing how teams created, managed, and governed content across the enterprise.

All sessions were fully customized, with examples, labs, and scenarios reflecting approved tools, data boundaries, and practical airline use cases.

Rebuilding Trust Through Delivery Quality

The airline had previously encountered inconsistent results with other training providers, resulting in heightened scrutiny and limited trust. Ascendient addressed this directly through disciplined delivery practices:

  • Rigorous instructor vetting and multi-stage evaluation
  • Consistently high-rated instructors with deep enterprise Microsoft experience
  • Highly organized, example-driven sessions with clear learning progression
  • Strong learner engagement through hands-on labs and frequent check-ins
