Course Description

Design AI coding around executable specifications through GitHub Spec Kit. Spec Kit foundations and governance cover the spec-first philosophy, the project Constitution that fixes engineering standards, long-term project memory, and integration with existing repositories. Specification and planning cover requirements in EARS notation, structured planning workflows that produce technical plans agents can reliably implement, context economics for large specs, and feature-sliced specification management. Execution and lifecycle cover orchestrating agent implementation against specs, validating code against acceptance criteria, debugging agent stalls and hallucinations, running specs as checks in CI, and managing continuous specification lifecycle as code drifts. Hands-on labs produce a Constitution, a feature spec in EARS notation, a planning document, and one feature implemented end-to-end through the Spec Kit workflow. The course is designed for senior software developers, AI engineers, and technical leads with introductory experience using an AI coding agent.

Module 1 - Foundations & Governance

By the end of this module, you will be able to articulate the spec-first philosophy with Spec Kit, initialize a project’s .specify directory, integrate Spec Kit with an existing codebase, and author a project Constitution that fixes the team’s non-negotiable engineering standards.
