Overview

Course Description

This Claude Design training teaches learners to produce polished visual deliverables without specialist design tools. Claude Design, an Anthropic Labs product, starts projects from text prompts, uploaded files, or captured web pages.
Learners practice writing structured design prompts that define task, audience, layout, hierarchy, and tone, then refine output through conversational iteration. Using inline comments, direct text edits, and simple adjustment controls, participants learn how to quickly evolve rough drafts into polished visual designs.
The course also covers finishing and delivery workflows, including applying brand inputs and accessibility checks, sharing designs through organization-scoped links, and exporting deliverables in formats such as PDF, PPTX, HTML, and Canva. Learners are introduced to the Claude Code handoff bundle to understand how designs can transition into a developer workflow when needed.
Hands-on labs compare starting-input choices, take a weak prompt through three refinement rounds, and produce a shared, exported deliverable with brand and accessibility applied.

Skills Gained

By the end of this Claude Design course, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate the Claude Design interface and start projects from text prompts, uploaded files, and web captures
  • Write structured design prompts that specify task, context, audience, layout, and constraints
  • Refine designs using inline comments, direct text edits, and adjustment knobs for spacing, color, and layout
  • Export designs in PDF, PPTX, HTML, and Canva formats

Getting Started with Claude Design

By the end of this module, you will be able to start a Claude Design project from a text prompt, an uploaded file, or a captured web page, and identify how the starting input shapes Claude’s first output. You will also be able to articulate how Claude Design differs from Canva, Figma, and traditional design tools.

  • Claude Design as an Anthropic Labs product for visual work, slides, and prototypes
  • Tour of the interface: project list, editor, and export panel
  • Comparison with Canva, Figma, and traditional design tools
  • Starting projects from text prompts, uploaded files (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, images), and the web capture tool
  • Hands-on Lab: Start the same one-pager from two instructor-provided starting inputs — a text prompt and an uploaded document — and compare how each shapes Claude’s first output.

Prompting and Refining Designs

By the end of this module, you will be able to write structured design prompts that specify task, audience, layout, hierarchy, and tone, and refine output through inline comments, direct text edits, and adjustment knobs for spacing, color, and layout. You will also be able to iterate through conversation to move from rough output to a polished result and apply changes consistently across an entire design.

  • Prompt structure for visual work: intent, references, and constraints
  • Communicating layout, hierarchy, tone, and audience
  • Iterating through conversation, restarting, or editing directly
  • Inline comments and direct text editing inside the canvas
  • Adjustment knobs for spacing, color, and layout, and applying changes across a full design
  • Recognizing where prompting reaches its limits and when to switch tools
  • Hands-on Lab: Take an instructor-provided weak prompt to a polished design through three rounds of refinement using prompts, inline comments, and adjustment knobs, then debrief on what was easier to communicate visually versus through prompts.

Finishing, Sharing, and Export

By the end of this module, you will be able to apply brand inputs and accessibility checks to a draft design, share it through organization-scoped link sharing, and export it across PDF, PPTX, HTML, and Canva. You will also be able to identify when a design needs to leave Claude Design for a developer workflow via the Claude Code handoff bundle.

  • Setting up brand and design-system inputs so output matches your team’s style
  • Accessibility checks: color contrast, alt text, and font scaling
  • Organization-scoped sharing: private, view-only, and collaborative edit
  • Export formats: internal URL, folder, Canva, PDF, PPTX, and standalone HTML
  • Introduction to the Claude Code handoff bundle for developer collaboration
  • Hands-on Lab: Apply a brand input and an accessibility check to the design you refined in Module 2, then export it in two formats (PDF plus either PPTX or HTML), share a view-only link with a classmate, and confirm access. Inspect the Claude Code handoff bundle for the same design and identify the first files a developer would need.
